The cost of a high yielding cow in India where we work has gone to Rs 31,000. It’s a lot of money – but it also means a lot of milk. Building up our cow herd is a major and important self sustainability project for New Hope. It has many aspects. The prime is milk for children. The ‘cow dung’ as it’s still called in Indian English goes to the Biogas Plant *– another Indian expression that we know as a digester. Into this goes every scrap, not always directly. Vegetable waste peelings go to the hens and the hen houses...

The situation in 2016 is different than 3 years ago when the Government of India and the World Health Organization started to promote the concept that Leprosy has been eradicated from India. It was a play on statistics that has come back to haunt organizations like New Hope., We are finding new cases of young people with leprosy. It’s a long complicated medical situation caused by the unusual possible long incubation and patients considered cured not actually cured due to a change in treatment policy at Government Primary Health Care Clinics. The Damien Foundation , Belgium gives a grant for...
Much of we achieved in the last year was simply by the support given to our love bundle appeal. People in the greatest need were cared for in this Covid stressful time – Thank you In the last one year – as across the world – life has changed. Our work load has been more not less as we had extra responsibilities – not just the duty of ensuring the children were safe from Covid in our 2 Home Centres. We also had additional responsibility in reaching out to aged and very disabled in the leprosy colonies. If you are...
Just a short Newsletter to thank everyone who has supported us during this stressful Corona Virus time. Our aim has been to keep all those who we care for as safe as possible to prevent the spread of the virus and to ensure those vulnerable like Tribal people in villages and Leprosy affected aged in colonies both safe and ensure food provisions and medical care. None of this has been easy both in management and financially. Sorry, we have missed sending some children sponsor letter – Like many organizations we are short-staffed as people are unable to come to work...
As the year 2019 comes to an end we look back and are thankful for the incredible support so many people have given to New Hope from across the world and especially so many individuals and groups in Australia – Every dollar finds its way to giving a care that is too often too hard to write and believe. We give many Love Bundles away to aged persons and at the same time to young people who have come to us as ‘bundles of humanity’ in need of love and care. A year in which the quality of eye care simply...

Half a year has gone and I can’t believe it. It has been a tough time for me, up and down to Perth from Broome for treatment at Murdoch Hospital! Couldn’t have made it without Al of course. Not exactly a tourist run. But I’m doing OK, so I’m learning to live in the moment. Good days and bad days make it hard for me to do as much as I wish I could do for New Hope. In it all I have not been able to get organised with a Newsletter to thank you for your support and keep...
