Vasu Gabriel Passed Away

This young man was aged 24 and was the right hand at New Hope Rural Leprosy Trust. All of the photographs, reports, newsletters, website editing and letters to sponsors and donors were in the majority done by Vasu. His name alone is a classic, Vasu Reddy Ganga Reddy in our Andhra Pradesh. Vasu came to us through the ‘open door’ policy of New Hope, and has sadly left us. In the last 10 years this young man has been influenced by our work and an influencer to our work, also been a strong and motivating figure for all who were...

Lions Club Bike Ride

Eliazar Rose and his wife Ruth we’re both children of leprosy patients in India and so they started New Hope a road for relief in 1985. As opposed to other charities New Hope has an open door policy where they don’t turn away anyone in need – from orphaned beggars, to the many leprosy sufferers and HIV/AIDS women and children who are outcast by society. Bike Ride 2014

The January 2014 New Hope India Bike Ride 2014 was enjoyed by everyone. The children at New Hope were amazed at how well all the Uncles and Aunties rode the 21 Speed gear bikes. The Bike Ride 2014 was a success. It is difficult to describe the incredibly different places they went to the majority of people that never seen. Imagine the first day of the ride started with a train trip into the hills through tunnels and over the X bridges. The visitors and the accompanying children have covered 22 Kilometers down to the overnight stop. On the last...

Business of Smiles

Nothing prepares you for the New Hope Children’s Village. It is at Kothavalasa in the recesses of Andhra Pradesh’s Vizianagaram district. Scruffy roads lead you there through dismal surroundings. There are no signboards, no grand statements, no intimations of any kind of what is in store. The village itself begins unannounced: a cluster of single-floor structures on 13 acres without a significant gate or wall to seal them off. Entry is by turning off the road – just like that. But when a large number of children, their faces radiant with excitement, emerge almost from nowhere for a rousing welcome,...

Mixed News for New Hope

The sad news is that a girl who has been with us for 9 years passed away peacefully. She was found at the beach, that many visitors see when visiting and where our own children go for picnics. Abandoned as a less than year old. She was born with cerebral palsy and the level was one of the most severe we have ever experienced. Santoshi was cared for and greatly loved by many. The staff is to be admired for their loving care. Minnu, a Downs Syndrome young woman who was also found as a child at the same place...
