New Hope India Australia Inc - Wish List

HOSPITAL CRISES.

To be very frank and honest with you we have been using our emergency funds to manage the Hospital for the last 9 months. Our Hospital is the only surgical unit for this whole region. It’s sad at so many levels. Young Leprosy patients and disabled children needing corrective surgery and the elderly needing Cataract surgery are our concern. Now those young people in need of corrective surgery stay deformed. The elderly will be blind.
We have made a budget that reflects both the care of leprosy patients who come from colonies and emergency care for Tribal women and children, and the important Eye care. We have averaged it out to cover a monthly figure that comes to $3691 a month. It is hard to imagine any Hospital being able to run at that cost, but the Australian dollar goes a long way in India rupees.

When someone gives $5 to New Hope , it does something that will change the quality of life of someone poor. That's why New Hope always says, we love $5 just as much as we love $5000.

New Hope is an organization that works in India and has networks all over the world with people working in friendship, and compassion helping some of the poorest people in India . Orissa is known in India as the poorest rural state. We believe that when people collect 'pantyhose or tights' to be used by aged or deformed leprosy patients that are used to support the dressings and bandages covering their ulcers - this is 'working for New Hope ' - working for change.

Working for Change is the theme of New Hope .

When a woman goes to a meeting of friends, or is with the family; when a child says to their grandmother, and when a grandfather says to a grandchild.

It enriches our own lives when a child from a Leprosy Colony writes to us. We feel the enrichment of our own lives when someone gives us a hug and says"I give to them too".

It enriches a widow's life when she can stay at home for a day instead of begging. To say how it enriches the limited life of a child with AIDS needs no explanation.

$5 vaccinates a child for life against common diseases.

$10 feeds a family for 6 weeks.

$20 buys 10 children enough toys, jigsaw puzzles and colouring pencils for about 6 months. Playing and Drawing is promoted by us for children, to give them a different focus other than illness.

$140 buys a Sewing Machine, used in Rehabilitation projects to teach Children, Tailoring. (Nobody leaves our care, eg.a disabled child, widow or cured Leprosy patient without being able to be self sufficient)

$3000 purchases for a year: Arts and Crafts for Materials, enabling training in the old Indian craft of "Hand Blocked" Indian designs together with some wages. This is an Income Generating programme for women and children. Within the weaving project patients are also taught to weave bandages, surgical gowns and sheets for our Reconstructive and Cataract surgery unit.

$5000 will build a room -to be added onto a Hospice, or a new school room. A company or organization can name the building and receive reports and photographs together with a plaque of our appreciation.

$12,000 would build a new home for our elderly patients; urgently needed as more and more are alone after deaths of relatives through AIDS and other tragedy's such as the Tsunami.

OR you can write and tell us what you would like us to do with an amount of money and we will see what we can work out-we are flexible because we have so many ongoing needs.

Our first Hospice the "John Dickson Shanti Home" (Shanti means peace in Sanskrit) was named in memory of the late John Dickson, a Thornlie Rotarian who was instrumental in ongoing support from Rotary. Since then we have built two more Hospice's for HIV AIDS patients - a Mother & Child Hospice and another Children's Hospice.

Sadly this wish list will always need your support.

$72 Installs 10 Ceiling Fans for Hospice.

$300 per Wheelchair. We need a dozen of them. It also buys a mobile Stretcher.

$270 will buy a "Package" of a Bed, Locker, Bed Linen, Blanket, Bedpan, and Wash Bowl. We need 8 of these "packages".

$600 for a mini Sterilizer, or a mini Oxygen unit with bottles.

$720 for 24'' Television that would be mounted on Wall of Hospice and could be seen by all children inc. children in Isolation side wards, as we are having Glass walls between Wards, for observation and social purposes. This amount would also pay for Speakers in Isolation Wards.

It may seem unnecessary to have a TV. But many of these children become bed ridden, and too ill to even bother to look at a book.

$5000 Will build another room onto the existing Hospice.: An organization, company or individual can name and dedicate the room, receive reports, photographs, and have a plaque on the new room with our appreciation for your generosity.-

Please contact me for any further information on any queries you might have.

Thank you for caring.
