Wish List Donations
Choosing New Hope Wish List Donations is a wonderful way of supporting our New Hope work in a very tangible way. All Wish List Donations enable us to continue to work for change with India’s poorest rural communities. Gift Donations Tax deductible for Australian residents.
Vocational Training - Donation
New Hope has 2 Vocational Training Centres. The older children and HIV Widows, who complete Non Formal Education see this training as a step towards self sufficiency.
Wheel Chairs for the Aged - Donation
Wheel chairs are always a Great gift for the aged Leprosy Patients, who cannot walk with their disability.
Chaff Cutter - Donation
A manual operated chaff cutter, which means cows eat more of the dry grass and less wastage. Each valuable gift enables us to continue to work for change with India's poorest rural communities.
Community School - Donation
We need more Community Schools to accommodate the growing number of destitute, disabled and HIV children’s needs to create a better academic environment for them to learn. It is a precious gift that benefits the whole community.
1 Jersey Cow - Donation
It is a ‘big’ gift in all ways – a Cow - That’s the way New Hope buys cows to ensure that they know the milk yields and that the offspring is a female. With more HIV orphan children coming and the high cost of milk, the aim is to increase the herd size in both Community Centres. Surplus milk can be sold and the project becomes self sufficient.
Old Age Persons Cottage - Donation
New Hope would love to be able to build more Old Age Cottages, to allow the destitute elderly person the dignity of having their own space. At present, they live in dormitories or in the children’s hostels.
SANDALS Protective Footwear
One of the insidious parts of leprosy disease is the loss of sensation. When a stone or thorn gets into our foot we feel it. The leprosy patients doesn’t. It becomes infected and turns into an ulcer and deformity starts. The prevention of deformity is always a priority for New Hope; along with early treatment by multi drug therapy
A pair made especially by a trained Shoe Technician (still called a Cobbler in India) to suit the healing ulcer and deformity cost.
CATARACT EYE SURGERY
This is an on going project. Sometimes we struggle to get the Surgeons when we need them and at the same time get bogged down with ‘red tape’ – the curse of India – a left of the Brit rule. BUT we manage to keep it going because its more than vision; its linked to the social stigma of being a burden not being able to be part of a working family who are surviving at poverty level in a rural village. Its even more complicated for a leprosy patient because its linked usually to lid closure movement that needs minor surgery too.
(Right: Found begging on a roadside by a New Hope Social Worker; blind. Post cataract eye surgery we found her village and she has found her son)
COW – MILK – SELF SUSTAINABLE
We are in a position to manage another cow. We have the grass and management. We are planning a new cow shed with funding too. An additional cow is needed for giving more milk to the children and making yogurt. Its bringing us closer to being self sustainable. . It is also linked to our Bio-gas plant. It’s a big amount A $600 so we have a link to ‘A cow in 4 parts (quarter) - A $150
We repaired the Chaff Cutter that was damaged (understatement) in the Hud Hud Cyclone but it needs replacement for safety. We shred green grass, corn stalks, sugar cane. And then feed it to cows and goats. Its an investment for a piece of equipment that ensures no ‘waste’ when the animals are eating. This is a major concern.
We are fortunate to get 30% of the children’s clothing donated in India and also from Josephs Coat, Australia. Economically we need to buy suitable shoes for the children. School, sports, playing. We are trying to change the clothing habit to ensure that children have ‘real’ pajamas for nights.
A set of pajama and a pair of shoes.
